Problems and perspectives of hardware startups in Serbia – online meeting as a warm-up for the conference “Hardware conference & Demo in Serbia”

According to the data in the Bizlife magazine from the end of last year, there are more than 400 innovative startup companies in Serbia, of which about 64 percent are from the field of IT software development, and 15 percent are from the field of hardware development.

Hardware startups are less represented than software startups; however, a lot of work is done on their development and support.

This is precisely why we are organizing the “Hardware conference & Demo in Serbia” conference in partnership with Bridgio Accelerator from Lithuania. The focus of this event is exclusively on Serbian hardware startups and what the climate for their success is in our region.

The main conference will be preceded by an online meeting, scheduled for May 11, 2023 at 17:00, where the current state, key figures of the ecosystem, and the problems facing hardware companies will be discussed.

The main speakers at the scheduled meeting will be:

  • Milan Ranđelović, managing director of STP Niš,
  • Nebojša Bjelotomić, CEO of the “Digital Serbia” Initiative,
  • Leonid Gasan, Chief Operating Officer at the Bridgio Accelerator,
  • Olga Duka, GP and co-founder of Improve Ventures,
  • Ekaterina Shiian, Head of Operations at Baltic Sandbox-у.

During this event, the interlocutors will raise topics about:

  • Problems and new perspectives of the Serbian hardware ecosystem;
  • Promising hardware startups: industry and innovative solutions;
  • Hardware conference and Demo Day in Niš.

Considering the topicality and importance of the topics to be discussed, attendance at this event is possible for all those who are interested. Through this link, you can register and get access to the conference call that will take place on the Zoom platform.

Startup Breakfast Special: Sales is not a Boogeyman

Nebojša Bjelotomić, director of the “Digital Serbia Initiative”, will be our interlocutor at the first Startup Breakfast special at STP Niš, on Tuesday, March 28 at 11:00.

Recognizing the importance of improving business skills and strengthening the companies’ competitiveness, the Science and Technology Park Niš and EU Info Point Niš jointly launch a special edition of the Startup Breakfast, where various useful topics for all entrepreneurs and innovators will be discussed.

Sales is an extremely important skill for the survival and development of startups, and the topic of the event was imposed by itself – “Sales is not a Boogeyman.” Given that the “Digital Serbia Initiative” submits an annual report on the state of the domestic startup ecosystem – Startup Scanner, and according to current data, the most common areas in which startup founders hired new team members in 2022 were sales (32.0%) and marketing (29.1%). These results are in line with last year’s startup goals, when “sales growt2 and “user number growth” were two of the three key development priorities in the startup ecosystem. From the employment plans in 2023, we see that, in addition to the employment of programmers, sales (51.5%) and marketing (49.1%) are still the most represented areas. These were but a few of the reasons why we considered Bjelotomić to be an ideal interlocutor.

Nebojša graduated as a scholar from Boston University, started his career in an American startup, and after returning to Serbia, he worked at IBM, then at Fujitsu Siemens, where he reached a position from which he managed business in the entire region very quickly. He continued his education with a master’s degree in management and marketing and became the director of the Printec company. At the beginning of October 2021, he assumed the position of director of the non-governmental and non-profit organization “Digital Serbia Initiative”.

As a business angel, Bjelotomić supported domestic startup teams in their efforts to expand on the world market and directly participated in four investments amounting to half a million euros in total.

Join us and be part of this interesting conversation, ask questions to our guest and hear the expert observations and experience of a man who has been dedicatedly working on the development of our startup and innovation ecosystem for years.

You can apply HERE to attend the event.

The startup breakfast special is dedicated to the European Year of Business Skills and is jointly organized by the EU Info Point and STP Niš. As part of a series of events, we will host business and innovation experts who will offer their expertise and support. Training employees in in-demand skills contributes to sustainable growth, leads to more innovation and improves the competitiveness of companies.

Get Acquainted with the Competition for the Best Technological Innovation in STP Niš, Find and Seize your Chance

Technological innovation plays a major role in the process of long-term economic growth and competitiveness. Innovation is primarily an economic process for which the existence of economic incentives is necessary, that is, the existence of an effective demand for new technologies.

This is precisely why great effort is being made to create opportunities for young innovators to make significant changes in their area and improve society as a whole.

One such opportunity is the competition for the best technological innovation, which promotes an entrepreneurial way of thinking and behavior, and provides participants with financial and educational support. This competition has been held since 2005 and, from its beginnings, was conceived as a school of high-tech entrepreneurship much more than an instrument to determine who is the most successful. This is the reason why new and more interesting trainings are organized every year, through which the skills that researchers often lack are acquired.

Some of the topics are: how to attract investors, how to adapt to the customer, how to creatively solve a problem, how to describe, present, sell, and protect your product.

On Monday, April 3, 2023, from 12:00, STP Niš will host the promotion of the competition in the Conference Hall, where you will be able to get informed about all the most important information on the competition for the best technological innovation, how it is organized, what are the conditions for participation, and what results the participating teams have achieved so far.

This is an opportunity to get to know this program better, and maybe this is exactly the way you will be able to transform your idea into a successful and profitable product or service.

Lecture: “Do We Really Understand ChatGPT and Artificial Intelligence – What is Hidden Under the Hood and Where is our Chance With It?”

Since November 2022 and the emergence of AI chatbots such as ChatGPT, the talks about artificial intelligence and its wide application have not calmed down. ChatGPT made it possible for the first time for someone to test artificial intelligence through a browser and to talk to a chat, and the chat to talk with them. It has been nicknamed the “Google Killer” for its ability to offer rounded answers instead of links. This is exactly what led Google and Microsoft to make a decision at the beginning of this year to introduce artificial intelligence into their own browsers.

Because of all this, artificial intelligence has been a hot topic all over the world for the last few months, and we have organized an event where you will be able to learn more about this topic and get an answer to the question “Do we really understand ChatGPT and artificial intelligence – What is hidden under the hood and where is our chance with it?”.

On Monday, March 27, at 11 a.m., at STP Niš, we will host Borislav Agapiev, a researcher and entrepreneur in the field of artificial intelligence. He is the founder and CEO of two startups: Qaagi.com and Yottaanwers.com for reasoning and factual direct answers on a very small scale with the goal of achieving Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). Borislav had previously founded Wowd, a distributed social search engine with the goal of disrupting Google (which was acquired by Facebook in 2012, and Google acquired the key patents). Before that, he had founded Vast.com, the largest vertical search engine for cars and real estate in the US market (acquired by Vroom in 2021).

Dr. Agapiev’s current interests are artificial general intelligence, quantum computers and quantum-inspired artificial intelligence, search engines and their application in finance, and he will be happy to share his knowledge and experience with you through a talk and a lecture next week.

We invite you to join us and hear the observations of one of the greatest experts from our area in the field of artificial intelligence.
